MARKETING COORDINATOR

The Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee is a grassroots organization dedicated since 2008 to creating healthy and vibrant communities by implementing public space enhancement projects and empowering women by providing opportunities of engagement and integration  through capacity-building, education, entrepreneurship and civic participation in Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood. Projects have included the rejuvenation of the local RV Burgess Park , North America’s first ever outdoor Tandoor Oven , running the Friday Night Community Market, Youth Ravine Stewardship Program, the Community Gardens, and most recently, pivoting during the pandemic to create the Neighbours in Need program delivering hot culturally appropriate meals made at the Park Cafe.

DESCRIPTION

RATE OF PAY: $15/hr (35 hours a week for 8 weeks)

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The  Marketing Coordinator will develop and oversee TPWC’s public facing communication properties ,which includes digital and web content; website development; social media platforms; monthly e-newsletter and regular blog posts; and print collateral. Will support fundraising staff in achieving revenue goals by providing relevant messaging and leveraging digital communications and social media. The coordinator will also oversee media relations and work with program staff to gather data and stories of program results and community impact.and will lead marketing strategies in support of TPWC’s social enterprise initiatives such as Park Café and the Community Market.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and deliver creative marketing and communication strategies, plans and approaches to help market and position TPWC to attract partners and funds

  • Ensure marketing and communications best practices are implemented and maintained

  • Work with internal stakeholders to support marketing and communications needs to ensure brand compliance, consistency, and effectiveness in raising organizational profile, messaging and positioning.

  • Lead the planning and execution of public awareness and marketing strategies for new and existing initiatives, projects and campaigns.

  • Lead public outreach in support of TPWC’s events.

  • Assess potential risk to organizational brand and reputation providing timely management and response strategies.

  • Design, implement and manage marketing strategies to increase sales from earned revenue through social enterprise initiatives such as Park Café & the Market

  • Seek out new opportunities to expand social enterprise initiatives and grow overall brand awareness

  • Develop a web strategy covering TPWC’s website- website development and develop processes to keep it up to date

  • Oversee digital communication channels, including website, e-communications, blog and all social media platforms.

  • Create an on-line market/e-commerce to support women entrepreneurship

  • Oversee the development of communications collateral such as the annual report, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, take-aways, video, etc.

  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to share stories that demonstrate organizational impact.

  • Serve as initial media contact, responding to media inquiries as needed.

  • Identify emerging issues relevant to the food movement and food justice, Women empowerment, employment and prepare appropriate messaging and public relations plans

  • Write and distribute media releases/advisories/interview opportunities.

  • Proactively seek media coverage to promote TPWC’s programs and projects, as well as the organization’s events, campaigns and social enterprise activities.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in Marketing, Fundraising, or Communications 2 years’ of relevant experience

  • Ability to create fundraising and marketing campaigns and opportunities with attention to detail

  • Demonstrated experience in planning and production of marketing materials and developing social media strategies

  • Have an excellent understanding of how to use marketing tools and techniques to increase the visibility, profile and reputation of an organization

  • Experience in developing and executing plans for events, media relations and marketing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in the use of IT Systems including Microsoft Office package

  • Exceptional time management, organizational and planning skills 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small staff team 

  • Ability to speak/understand a second language would be an asset 

This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, and the successful applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

  • be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

  • Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year and intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year

  • be a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program

  • be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations
