BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
The Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee is a grassroots organization dedicated since 2008 to creating healthy and vibrant communities by implementing public space enhancement projects and empowering women by providing opportunities of engagement and integration through capacity-building, education, entrepreneurship and civic participation in Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood. Projects have included the rejuvenation of the local RV Burgess Park , North America’s first ever outdoor Tandoor Oven , running the Friday Night Community Market, Youth Ravine Stewardship Program, the Community Gardens, and most recently, pivoting during the pandemic to create the Neighbours in Need program delivering hot culturally appropriate meals made at the Park Cafe.

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Our organization was built from a community first stand point. We are currently looking for a Business Development Officer who can put the needs of our community at the forefront of our development strategies and grow our already established programming while piloting new avenues to support women and youth in the Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood.
This position will focus primarily on growing our programs related to entrepreneurship and employment skills development. We are looking for an individual/organization who can provide guidance on how to administer programming to our communities unique needs. This position will be responsible for providing professional development opportunities for members of the program while providing skills to these individuals. In particular, we look for this position to focus on marketing and teaching our program users marketing strategies.The outcome of this position is to establish a long term model for our organization to have women and youth develop entrepreneurship and working skills with us. We look for expert advice and action to provide working goals and structure to our Park Cafe and Night Market in regards to marketing strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires experience and knowledge of social enterprise functionality or program development with a social impact goal. Areas of experience or knowledge include but are not limited to;
- Social Entrepreneurship
- Restaurant Management
- Marketing with a social purpose
- Work within the nonprofit sector
- Project Coordination
- Teaching or leadership skills
QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree or higher is required

Marketing experience is highly desirable

Enthusiasm for social enterprises and women’s empowerment.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Experience working in diverse, multicultural communities.

Excellent communication skills.

Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently
This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, and the successful applicant must meet the following requirements:

be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year and intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
